7th-12th grade Colorado Mission Trip in July
Founded during the “Pikes Peak or Bust Gold Rush” of 1859, Denver has been called the “Gateway to the West.” It is a city that prides itself on being clean and active. If you look closely, however, you will find the same struggles that affect any other urban area...issues like gentrification and homelessness are on the rise. Low income residents are being displaced from their housing as the city continues “urban renewal” programs. As it becomes more popular to live, work and play in the city, property becomes very valuable.
Youth currently in 7th-12th grade are invited to serve in Denver this summer. We will be more than tourists for the week as we reach out, touch & experience the city in unique ways. We may find ourselves in touristy places like down along the 16th street pedestrian mall, but instead of shopping we will be looking for ways that we could meet a need for someone we might normally pass by. We will work with CSM Denver who partner with many agencies and ministries around the city on behalf of those who are ignored or cannot speak for themselves. We will serve at places like the Denver Rescue Mission and be able to put a name to homelessness by serving and eating alongside the patrons. Of course, before we return home we will be spending a day exploring God’s beautiful creation of Mountains in Colorado. There are a limited number of spaces available for this trip, so if you are interested, talk to Michelle A right away!
